The Basel cantonal parliament has topped up its location promotion fund and will be funding a total of nine innovation promotion programmes in the three innovation fields of “Innovation in Life Sciences”, “Digital Innovation” and “Sustainable Economy”. One of these programmes involves financial support from the canton for congresses.
As the chosen home of future-orientated industrial companies and eminent research institutes, Basel is today one of Europe’s leading life sciences locations. At the same time, the city is also a leading trade fair and congress destination. Through the financial support it provides for congresses, the canton is making a further contribution to ensuring that, for the three innovation fields, new congress formats can be developed, brought to Basel and kept here. The coordination and evaluation of funding applications lies with the Basel Congress Board, which consists of representatives from various institutions in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Basel’s industry then has attractive platforms at its disposal in the immediate vicinity, and the tourist trade benefits from the money spent by the congress attendees.
Government member Kaspar Sutter is delighted that, with these measures, Basel will have the means to remain an attractive business location in the future too.
