For the Congress Center Basel, this marks the continuation of a successful series that started in 2018 with the AMEE congress and continues next year with the DGHO conference. Major events are increasingly finding their way to this city on the Rhine. Bidding to stage a congress of such dimensions, however, is more of a marathon than a sprint. The first contact, initiated and subsequently fostered with great commitment by local host Prof. Manuel Battegay, goes back to 2013. In the phase that followed, the CCB was in constant contact with the organisers working with EACS President Dr. Jürgen Rockstroh until, in May 2017, it finally became clear that Basel had prevailed against the strong competition and had won the race.
It is hardly surprising that organisations from the medical sector, in particular, appear to feel at home at these latitudes. “Our city boasts an impressive concentration of research groups and companies in the life sciences sector”, says Jonas Scharf, Managing Director of the Congress Center Basel. “From globally leading scientists and biotech entrepreneurs, right through to patent specialists, more than 30,000 people work in the corresponding industries here – more than anywhere else in the world in such a small space.” One thing is thus quite certain: visitors can look forward not only to many exciting inputs but also to an inspiring atmosphere.
