In the coming months, 26,000 guests from all over the world will be meeting up at the 26 congresses that have been confirmed to date. This schedule marks a continuation of last year’s record year. All in all, the CCB stages around 200 events each year, from press conferences, via meetings of national and international associations, specialist exhibitions and panel discussions, right through to events in the fields of music and show business.
One initial highlight will be the spring congress of the Swiss Society for General Internal Medicine (SGAIM) from 27 to 29 May. With more than 7000 members, SGAIM is Switzerland’s biggest specialist medical association. Under the title “Precision & Uncertainty”, specialists in internal medicine will be discussing “precision medicine” and its pitfalls.
DGHO Conference with 5500 participants
Located at the heart of Europe, the CCB offers a congress centre that has direct links to an exhibition site with 141,000 square metres of exhibition halls. Conferences can thus be accompanied by specialist exhibitions or trade fairs and similar events. The high-calibre events staged in Basel have a high added value potential not only for the city itself but also for Basel as a business location. The perception of this city located at the point where the river Rhine turns north is greatly influenced by the international congresses held here. This also applies in the case of the 15th ESH Congress of Hypnosis from 26 to 29 August, which will be attended by clinical hypnosis experts from all over Europe. Then, just one week later, the EFMC International Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry will be bringing together experts from this particular field at the CCB. The great importance of the life sciences and the pharmaceutical industry in Basel is also reflected in numerous events at the CCB.
The biggest event in terms of visitor numbers will no doubt be the annual meeting of the German, Austrian and Swiss Societies of Haematology and Medical Oncology (DGHO) from 9 to 12 October, at which some 5500 participants are expected. A further high-calibre international event is the Annual Biocontrol Industry Meeting (ABIM) from 21 to 23 October.
