The parliament of Canton Basel-Landschaft generally meets in the government building in Liestal, and the parliament of Canton Basel-Stadt in the city hall on Marktplatz in Basel. These special times, however, call for special measures and, for several weeks now, the two cantonal parliaments have been using the large “Montreal” auditorium and the “San Francisco” room at the Congress Center Basel (CCB). The parliaments are able to meet here while observing the current federal rules governing distance and hygiene. A similar picture has emerged in Zurich, where the weekly meetings of the cantonal parliament and the Zurich city council have been switched to Messe Zurich. This, like Messe Basel and the CCB, belongs to the MCH Group. The relocation of politicians to the MCH Group’s spacious premises constitutes one example of an additional form of use. Further examples are examinations involving a large number of candidates, where we are able to provide sufficient space, safety measures and technical equipment. The “numerus clausus” examinations in Basel and Zurich for university admission to certain subjects are thus being held in the MCH Group’s exhibition halls this year.
Support the Locals
The CCB is currently engaged in intensive discussions with service clubs, carnival troupes and sports clubs, etc. and is drawing up customised solutions for them so that they will be able to meet up again in person soon. It is to be expected that events with a maximum of 1000 persons will soon be possible again, albeit subject to additional restrictions. Until the CCB is able to return to its normal day-to-day business, we are supporting institutions with made-to-measure solutions and, for a limited period of time, are offering special conditions to associations and non-profit organisations. The CCB is the right address for anyone needing a room between 8:00 and 22:00 on Monday to Friday due to their own premises not satisfying the federal hygiene regulations.
