This year’s Art Basel Hong Kong enjoyed brisk attendance, both on site and via the digital channels. It featured a strong line-up of 104 galleries from Asia and abroad, many of which had opted to participate with a satellite stand. This new concept was introduced to support those gallerists who were unable to attend in person on account of the current regulations. Exhibitors also presented their offerings to international customers in online viewing rooms.
The high level of interest displayed by the public and the numerous sales show that the art world has been eagerly awaiting this comeback. This augurs well for Art Basel in Basel, which is scheduled for 23 to 26 September 2021. The latest relaxation of measures by the Federal Council is also giving cause for optimism. As of 20 August 2021, the sole restriction will be an upper limit on the number of visitors of one person per 4 m² area, upon presentation of a COVID certificate. It is thus perfectly conceivable that the 50th edition of Art Basel will not differ that much from its predecessors!
